The Section of Neurosurgery at the University of Manitoba typically takes between 1 to 2 incoming residents, annually, and participates in the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).

Our Program

The Health Sciences Centre and Winnipeg Children’s Hospital are the main sites associated with Neurosurgery residency training at the University of Manitoba. They are equipped with modern diagnostic equipment including 1.5 and 3T MR imaging (including the intra-operative MRI suite), high-resolution CT scanning, and angiographic capabilities.

Academic Half Day

The Neurosurgery Residency Program Academic Half Day takes place every Friday from 07:00-14:00. The Half Day is protected time which includes: Neuroscience Rounds, Neurosurgery Curriculum Sessions, Journal Club, Neuropathology Rounds, Neuro-Oncology Rounds, and Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Rounds.

Elective Information

The Section of Neurosurgery is the only neurosurgical centre in the province of Manitoba and provides tertiary care for all neurosurgical problems for the population of Manitoba and northwest Ontario, as well as areas of Saskatchewan.
