Winnipeg Neurosurgery Spine Program
The Winnipeg Neurosurgery Spine Program, a multidisciplinary team of fellowship-trained neurosurgeons and specially-trained nurses, physician assistants and physical therapists, are skilled at treating complex spinal disorders. All members of the group have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of complex spinal disorders related to degenerative and congenital conditions, trauma, infection, oncology, and deformity. We offer a wide variety of options to manage these conditions through both complex open and minimally invasive (tubular, endoscopic and percutaneous) anterior, posterior and lateral techniques using up to date navigation and surgical technology.
Winnipeg Neurosurgery Spine Fellowship Program
The Winnipeg Neurosurgery Spine Program offers a 1 year specialized fellowship training program for aspiring spine surgeons. As a fellow, you will gain hands-on experience by participating in over 200-300 spine surgeries each year. Your fellowship will take place primarily at the Health Sciences Centre, which is the tertiary referral center for a catchment area of more than 1.5 million people, as well as 2 other adult sites across Winnipeg. For interested fellows, they may also work at the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital for pediatric spine exposure.
In addition to surgical practice, you will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of clinical experiences, including on-call work and outpatient clinics. The educational curriculum is robust, and includes regular case rounds, journal clubs, and multidisciplinary spine oncology rounds. You will work with a wide range of physicians, trainees, specially trained physician assistants, nurses and physiotherapists through the Winnipeg Spine Clinic, and will have the opportunity to develop mentorship and teaching skills throughout the year.
You will be encouraged to complete at least one research project during your year and present your work at a national conference, contributing to advancements in the field.
With expert mentorship from 4 fellowship-trained spinal neurosurgeons and diverse clinical and research opportunities, the Winnipeg Neurosurgery Spine Fellowship is an invaluable program for those looking to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of spine surgery.
