Annie I. Drapeau, MD, is a Pediatric Neurosurgeon and Assistant Professor in the Section of Neurosurgery at Health Sciences Centre and University of Manitoba. Dr. Drapeau completed her fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in pediatric neurosurgery in Columbus, Ohio (USA) where she stayed as a faculty member affiliated with The Ohio State University (2016-2022). She completed her residency in neurosurgery at the University of Manitoba and the University of Sherbrooke. Dr. Drapeau received her Doctor of Medicine and Masters of Science in pharmacology from the University of Sherbrooke. She also received a diploma in specialized studies for clinician investigator. Additionally, she is board-certified for neurosurgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and for pediatric neurosurgery by the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery (ABPNS) and RCPSC. 

During her time at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Dr. Drapeau developed her clinical expertise and interest in pediatric craniofacial conditions as the co-director of the craniosynostosis program, part of the Center for Complex Craniofacial Disorders. She continues to care for children with craniofacial disorders as part of the Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg Children’s Hospital multidisciplinary team. She has introduced minimally invasive techniques previously not readily available to children of Manitoba to treat craniosynostosis. Her other clinical interests apart from general neurosurgical conditions include collaborative work to treat children and adults with brain tumors (neuro-oncology team), especially those who require an endoscopic skull base approach (ENT team).

Dr. Drapeau’s research interests mainly focus on craniosynostosis, quality improvement (QI) and safety in neurosurgery as well as health-related quality of life of families and patients. She has an extensive list of presentations, publications, grants and awards to display her dedication to pediatric neurosurgery as an academic and medical professional. She has received awards including Valedictorian of her residency program at the University of Sherbrooke and the Resident Traveling Fellowship Award from the Pediatric Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Most recently, she was one of the 2024 top 10 winners from CBC Manitoba’s Future 40 under 40 highlighting her successes as the first female neurosurgeon in Manitoba.

In addition, Dr. Drapeau serves as the Pediatric Neurosurgery Service Lead, the Neurosurgery Residency Program Director at the University of Manitoba and as an associate Editor for Neurosurgical Review. Dr. Drapeau is also involved in professional societies including AANS, CNS, and American Academy of Pediatrics.
